Momentum and ImpulseWhat is momentum and what is impulse? Momentum can simply be defined as a combination of mass and movement. Everything that moves has momentum, which presents itself as a type of force. Impulse is directed related to momentum, and can be simply defined as a change in momentum over time. Much like the relationship between velocity and acceleration. Impulse and momentum go hand in hand.
In this unit we learn about what it means to conserve momentum, and how energy is transferred to and from object during a collision in the form of motion. Through looking at elastic, inelastic, and explosive collisions students will be able to make a real world connection with momentum and impulse. |
